The Department of Communities (March 2011) homelessness figures for the December quarter 2010, suggest that 48,010 households are in some form of temporary accommodation - 45% of this figure are single women with dependents. In addittion to this, there are a further 14,000 peple officially classed as rough sleepers.
Further to those living in temporary accomodation and more significantly there are more than 29,000 officially registered homeless people using supporting people projects such as hostels.

Family breakdown, addiction, mental illness and abuse are the some of the main causes of homelessness. Sleeping rough is just the most visable aspect of homelessness. Getting a roof over your head is a start, then you can begin
to tackle the real causes.
Over the coming months and in preparation for the winter, MCUK will continue to ask donors for support in projects essential clothing for the homeless in the winter time. As part of a big society, MCUK continues to work with partners, donors and volunteers. We need your support, to endeavour to eradicate homelessness and hunger.
